Alan Greenspan once said, “The economy of the 21st Century is the economy of ideas.” We, at WACA, believe that this is a mandate for arts education--An education that focuses on the creation of ideas, problem solving, and expression of creativity.
We know from our teaching, coaching, and parenting that arts are a vital and expanding element of our school culture. We recognize who our students are, and the culture they bring to our halls. In highlighting the arts, we will provide an environment of trust, a free exchange of ideas, excitement, energy and creativity. By channeling the arts as a means of expression, we will be preparing our students for the next stages of their lives.

| We believe that art crosses ethnic and racial lines. We believe that all students, no matter their language abilities, can find a voice in art. We believe that art and communication provide an approach to acquiring knowledge and skills that will enhance learning in the traditional core subjects. We believe that passion and interest in the arts can lead to personal and professional success in the outside world. We believe that students can create meaningful and critical connections between all they learn if they are given the time and opportunity. We believe that students want to learn, be successful, and conduct themselves appropriately. We believe in the importance of teachers as advocates: a guide to a group of students who acts as counselor, mentor, advisor, and academic coach. We believe that education that focuses on the creation of ideas, problem solving, and expression of creativity We believe in the techniques of creativity- improvisation, inquiry, composition, interpretation, practice, performance, and critique- are tools of powerful learning. |
